Hammer Gun - Game Ready Prop

Hammer Gun is a game-ready hard surface weapon prop created during my spare time while working a full-time job. The project was completed over approximately two weeks.

The goal was to develop a detailed apocalypse style weapon aesthetic while keeping it optimized for real-time use. The asset was primarily modeled in Blender, with additional organic detailing sculpted in ZBrush for the welded metal areas. The final asset was baked in Marmoset Toolbag and textured in Adobe Substance 3D Painter.

Breakdown

High Poly Modeling

The base hard surface model was created in Blender, focusing on strong mechanical shapes and clean topology.

The model was then brought into ZBrush to sculpt the welding seams, adding organic irregularity and enhancing the industrial realism of the asset.

Low Poly

After finalizing the high poly, the low poly version was created in Blender. The goal was to preserve the overall silhouette while keeping the asset efficient and suitable for real-time use.

UV Mapping

UV mapping was completed in Blender using plugins to improve workflow efficiency. The layout was optimized to maximize texture space and maintain consistent texel density.

Baking & Texturing

The asset was baked in Marmoset Toolbag to capture high poly details, including the welded seams and surface damage.

Texturing was completed in Adobe Substance 3D Painter, focusing on layered roughness variation, edge wear, and color variation to achieve a believable used-metal finish.
